Iraq, as a country with a history dating back thousands of years, has a large number of religious monuments dedicated to the Islamic side. It contains the mosque of Imam Ali in Najaf, and the tomb of Ali bin Abi Talib, the cousin of the Prophet Muhammad. It is also believed that he was buried next to Imam Ali the remains of Adam and Noah.
The shrine of Imam Hussein in Karbala, Iraq, is one of the most important shrines for Shiite Muslims in Iraq. This is believed to be the last place where the remains of Imam Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad and the third imam of Islam, were buried. Both sites receive religious tourists each year due to their importance in the Shiite faith.
